Dávno, dávno tomu, když lesy a kopce ještě ovládali skřítci a víly, žila v temném a zapadlé části lesa bytost jménem Břečan.
Once upon a time, in the heart of the Czech Republic, there lived a mischievous sprite named Břečan. His peculiar talent was to bring about nightmares to anyone who dared to cross his path. Although some feared him, others longed for his presence, for they knew that with his arrival came the promise of a good night’s sleep.
V dálkách se zablýskla hvězda (A Star Shone in the Distance)
As the night approached, the villagers would huddle in their homes, whispering about the legend of Břečan. They would tell their children to behave, or else the sprite would come and steal their dreams. But one evening, a curious boy named Jan decided to wander out into the woods to seek out the infamous Břečan.
Ztracený v lese (Lost in the Woods)
Jan trudged through the darkened forest, his heart pounding as he listened to the eerie sounds emanating from the trees. Suddenly, he heard the sound of tiny footsteps, and he froze, unsure of what to do. To his surprise, a small, wispy figure appeared before him.
Překvapení setkání (A Surprising Encounter)
It was Břečan himself, gazing up at Jan with his large, glowing eyes. Jan trembled, but the sprite merely laughed, amused by the boy’s fear. „What do you want from me?“ Jan asked, trying to keep his voice steady. „I have come for your dreams,“ Břečan replied, his voice echoing through the woods.
Dojemná prosba (A Touching Request)
But Jan surprised the sprite by making a plea. „Please, Břečan, don’t give me any nightmares tonight. I want to dream of happy things.“ Břečan was taken aback by the boy’s request, but something in his heart stirred. He had never heard anyone ask him for such a thing before.
Zářivý úsměv (A Radiant Smile)
And so, Břečan granted Jan’s wish. That evening, Jan slumbered peacefully, dreaming of soaring through the clouds and playing with his friends. As dawn broke, Břečan appeared before Jan once again, a beaming smile on his face. „You have made me realize something,“ he said. „Perhaps causing nightmares is not the only way to bring joy to people.“
Odchod Břečana (Břečan’s Departure)
And so, from that day on, Břečan stopped delivering nightmares altogether. Instead, he found new ways to make people happy, whether it was by sprinkling the flowers with dewdrops or by tickling the noses of sleeping animals. And Jan discovered that there was more to Břečan than just his fearsome reputation.
Změna (Change)
The villagers began to see Břečan in a different light, and slowly but surely, they welcomed him into their homes with open arms. And as for Jan, he would often find Břečan hiding in his room, playing tricks on him and making him laugh until he cried.
The End
And so, the story of Břečan became a fairy tale, told and retold for generations to come. For although he may have once been feared for his nocturnal antics, Břečan ultimately found a way to bring joy and happiness to those around him. And that is a lesson that we can all learn from – that even the most mischievous among us can change for the better, given the right motivation.
