Dlouho, dlouho před naším věkem, kdy první hvězdy začaly třpytit, a první rosy padaly na zem, existovala zvláštní hostina. Hovoří se o Aegirově hostině – slavnostním utkání bohů, kde se slavilo vítězství a závist se zapomínala. Tato hostina byla nevídaně štědrá a nabitá potravinami, nápoji i zábavou. Každý rok se konala na jiném místě a své hosty přijímala s otevřenou náručí. Ale jednoho roku se stalo něco nečekaného a hostina se změnila na zdroj strachu a hrůzy. V pohádce „Aegirova hostina“ se setkáváme s mýtem o moudrém a mocném bohu mořských hlubin Aegirovi, který všem svým hostům vytvořil dokonalou hostinu. Aegir a jeho kamarád Loki si pečlivě připravovali jednotlivé předkrmy, hlavní chody i nápoje a nabídli svým hostům širokou škálu ryb, korýšů, mořských řas a dalších pochoutek. A aby pozvání na tuto hostinu bylo opravdu zvláštní, tak Aegir a Loki vytvořili pozvánky z drahocenných kovů a ozdobili je drahokamy.
