Některá tajemná místa mohou být pro naše oči skrytá na celé věky. Jejich tajemné legendy se však vyznačují nekonečnými příběhy, které přinášejí zázraky a inspiraci pro další generace. Podobně tomu bylo s Passaconawayem, mocným náčelníkem kmene Pennacooků, který se vydal na neuvěřitelnou cestu do nebe, aby získal sílu a moudrost, které byly nutné pro ochranu jeho národa. Tento příběh je znám jako „Cesta Passaconawaye do nebe“ a zůstává jedním z nejtajemnějších a nejkrásnějších příběhů českého folklóru.
Once upon a time, in the beautiful land of Bohemia, there lived a great chief named Passaconaway. He was a wise and powerful leader, loved and respected by his tribe. Passaconaway was blessed with many gifts from the Great Spirit, but he was never satisfied. He wanted to reach the heavens, to see the world from up above, and to talk to the gods.
One day, Passaconaway announced to his tribe that he would embark on a journey to the heavens. His people tried to dissuade him, telling him that it was impossible to reach the sky, but Passaconaway was determined. He prepared for his journey, took his walking stick, and set forth into the unknown.
Na začátku cesty – At the beginning of the journey
As Passaconaway walked through the thick forests and across the rolling hills, he encountered many challenges. The winds blew fiercely, and the rain poured down. The forests were thick with thorns and brambles, and the rivers were deep with treacherous currents. But Passaconaway was undeterred. He took each challenge in stride, using his wit and intelligence to overcome them.
He came upon an old woman sitting by a river, spinning thread. The old woman asked him where he was going. Passaconaway told her of his quest to reach the heavens. The old woman laughed and said, „No one can reach the heavens. The gods are too far away.“ But Passaconaway was determined. He asked the old woman if she had any advice on how to reach the heavens. She replied, „You must find the Tree of Life. It is the only way to the heavens.“
Nalezení stromu života – Finding the Tree of Life
Passaconaway set out to find the Tree of Life. He walked for many days and nights until he came to a vast, dark forest. He heard the sound of drums and singing coming from the heart of the forest. He decided to investigate and found a group of people dancing around a huge, majestic tree. They welcomed Passaconaway and told him that this was the Tree of Life.
Změna těla – Changing the Body
To reach the heavens, Passaconaway had to change his physical form. The people around the tree gave him a special potion that transformed his body into that of a bird. He flapped his wings and soared up towards the sky, leaving his old body behind.
Cesta do nebe – Journey to Heaven
Passaconaway flew higher and higher until he broke through the clouds and reached the heavens. He saw the gods, standing on a great mountain, looking down on the world below. He landed on the mountain and approached the gods. They welcomed him and asked him why he had come.
Passaconaway told the gods of his quest to reach the heavens, to see the world from above, and to talk to the gods. The gods were impressed by his determination and wisdom. They told him that they would allow him to stay in the heavens for seven days and to ask them any questions he wanted.
Passaconaway spent the next seven days with the gods, asking them about the mysteries of the world and the nature of existence. He learned many things and saw things that none of his tribe had ever seen before. On the seventh day, the gods told him it was time to return to his people on earth.
Návrat na Zem – Return to Earth
Passaconaway returned to the Tree of Life, and the people there gave him another potion to change his bird form back to human form. He walked back to his tribe, carrying the knowledge and wisdom he had gained from the heavens.
The people of his tribe were amazed when they saw him. They asked him where he had been, and he told them of his journey to the heavens. They listened in wonder as he shared his knowledge and wisdom with them. From that day on, Passaconaway became known as a wise and powerful leader, revered by all people in the land of Bohemia.

And so, the story of Passaconaway’s Journey to Heaven became a legend in the land of Bohemia. It was passed down from generation to generation, and people marveled at the bravery and determination of the great chief. The Tree of Life became a sacred symbol, revered by many, and Passaconaway’s legacy lived on in the hearts and minds of all who heard his story.

Dávno, v krásné zemi Čech, žil velký náčelník jménem Passaconaway. Byl moudrý a mocný vůdce, milovaný a uznávaný svým kmenem. Passaconaway byl obdarován mnoha dary od Velkého Ducha, ale nikdy nebyl spokojen. Chtěl dosáhnout nebes, vidět svět z výšky a hovořit s bohy. Jednoho dne oznámil svému kmene, že se vydá na cestu do nebes. Jeho lidé ho snažili odvrátit, říkajíc, že je nemožné dosáhnout nebes, ale Passaconaway byl rozhodnut. Připravil se na cestu, vzal si svou hůl a vydal se do neznáma. Po cestě se setkal se spoustou výzev a těžkostí, ale Passaconaway nebyl zaskočen. Potkal také stařičkou ženu, která mu poradila, jak najít Strom života, což bylo jediné možné místo, odkud by mohl dospět do nebes. Passaconaway našel tento strom, za pomoci lahůdky dostal tělesnou formu ptáka a poletěl do nebes. Tam strávil sedm dní ve společnosti bohů a naučil se mnoho důležitých věcí a tajemství přírody. Po návratu na zem se stal Passaconaway moudrým a mocným vůdcem, tuto legendu si do dnešní doby připomínají lidé v Čechách.
